Our History

The 1st meeting of the King of Hearts was called by the Cardiac staff of King George Hospital Goodmayes, Essex in January 2001. At that meeting invited cardiac patients were told about the benefits of starting a support group. From those present a committee was formed and in February we met for the 1st time as a group. We have always had strong and positive support from our President Doctor Andrew Deaner. We are also lucky to have a members of staff sit on our committee Heart failure Sister Karen Hughes.

Our inaugural Chairman was David Jones who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. He was followed by our present chairman Henry Phillips. He also acts as secretary and treasurer for the group. The committee by and large has been the same for some years now and is made up of patients and carers plus as already mentioned hospital staff.

We are also privileged to have a very good relationship with Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering Primary Care Trusts. They help in providing speakers and financial support for the rental on premises and the printing of leaflets.
